FAQ

Custom headlights questions, answered.

Everything buyers ask before they order — minimums, timings, artwork and print options.

What is the minimum order?

Our minimum order is just 12 units, with bulk tiers as quantities grow. Assemblies, retrofits, film kits and restoration batches all carry the same minimum, and a unit means one headlight assembly unless the quote says otherwise.

How fast will my order arrive?

Your free mockup — a rendered light signature on your own vehicle — lands within 24 hours, and finished work ships in about 2 weeks. Projector retrofits and heavily customised signatures can add a few days, and we confirm a real ship date in writing before you commit rather than after.

Are custom headlights street legal?

Some are and some are not, and we tell you which before you buy. Front lighting on a US road vehicle is governed by the federal standard and compliant lamps carry a DOT or SAE marking; beyond that, state inspection rules and enforcement vary. Light smoke, white DRLs and amber sequential indicators are generally uncontroversial. Heavy or blackout smoke, coloured halos and white front indicators are show and off-road choices, and we mark them as exactly that on the quote, the box and the invoice. The final check against your own state’s rules is yours to make.

Can I just put LED bulbs in my existing headlights?

You can, and we do not sell them, because the housing is the optic. A reflector or halogen projector is designed around the precise position and shape of a filament, and an LED emitter does not sit where that filament sat. The cut-off breaks down, light scatters upward into oncoming traffic, and in most cases less usable light lands on the road even though it looks much brighter from the driver’s seat. The honest upgrade is a housing built for the source, which is what a projector retrofit is.

Is a higher colour temperature brighter?

No. Colour temperature describes the tint of the light rather than how much of it there is. Around 4300K to 5000K is where most manufacturers aim, because that light penetrates rain, fog and snow better and shows up the road surface more usefully. Above 6000K the light reads dramatically whiter and scatters more in bad weather, which is exactly when seeing distance matters. Brighter-looking and brighter are different things and this is the clearest example of it.

How much light does smoking a headlight cost?

More than most people expect, and the loss is invisible until you need it. A light smoke costs a modest fraction that most drivers never notice on a dry road. A heavy or blackout tint can remove a large share of the output, and you will discover it on an unlit road in rain rather than in a car park. We state an estimated loss per tint level on the quote, so the styling decision is made with the number in front of you.

Why do headlights fog up on the inside?

Because they are vented, not sealed. Housings have breather vents so that pressure and temperature changes do not stress the lens bond, and a light mist that clears within a short drive is normal for most vehicles. Persistent standing water or heavy condensation is not, and on a modified assembly it usually means a reopened housing was not resealed properly. Any housing we open is resealed with fresh butyl, because a bad reseal is the most common cause of a headlight that fogs for years.

Will these fit my vehicle?

Only if we quote them against your exact vehicle, which is why every quote starts with year, make, model and trim. Trim level matters more than people expect on modern vehicles, since the same model year can ship halogen reflector, LED reflector and adaptive projector systems with completely different housings, connectors and control modules. Send the trim and, where you have it, the part number on the existing assembly, and fitment stops being a guess.
