The housing is the optic. Almost every upgrade in this category forgets that.
Customized Headlights builds smoked and tinted assemblies, halo and DRL signatures, projector retrofits, sequential amber indicators, protection film kits and restoration — quoted with the beam, the output cost and the compliance position stated.

Somebody fits a set of LED bulbs to a halogen reflector and it looks spectacular from the driver’s seat. Oncoming drivers flash them for a month before they work out why.
The light is not brighter. It is scattered. The reflector was shaped around the exact position of a filament, and when a different emitter sits in that spot the cut-off collapses and the extra light goes up into other people’s eyes rather than down the road.
That single misunderstanding — that a headlight is a housing you can put a brighter bulb in — is behind most of what goes wrong in this trade, and most of the products sold to fix it.
Why we exist
A headlight is decided by four things: what the optic is, what source it was designed for, how much of the output the finish costs, and whether the finished part is road or show use. Most quotes in this category state none of them.
We state all four, on the quote, on the box and on the invoice.
Road use and show use are different products
Front lighting on a US road vehicle is a regulated safety device and compliant lamps carry a DOT or SAE marking. Beyond that, state inspection rules and enforcement vary.
Heavy smoke, coloured halos and white front indicators are show and off-road choices. We will build every one of them and we will label them, because the part that ends a shop’s reputation is the one that was sold as street legal and was not.
Why we do not sell drop-in LED bulbs
A reflector or halogen projector is an optic built around one emitter in one position. Change the emitter and the optic is aimed at nothing in particular.
The visible result is a bright glow and a lost cut-off; the measurable result is usually less usable light on the road and much more glare for everyone else. The honest upgrade is a housing designed for its source, which is what a retrofit is.
Brighter-looking is not brighter
Colour temperature is a tint, not a quantity. Around 4300K to 5000K puts more usable light on the road and penetrates rain, fog and snow better, which is why manufacturers target it.
Above 6000K the light reads dramatically whiter and scatters more, exactly when seeing distance matters most. We will fit what you ask for and we will tell you this first.
Tint costs output you cannot see leaving
A smoked lens looks superb parked and removes a measurable share of the light. A light smoke is a modest cost most drivers never notice; a blackout finish is a show choice.
So we quote tint by level with an estimated loss beside it. The decision then belongs to you, made with the number in front of you rather than on an unlit road in the rain.
Housings are vented, and seals are where retrofits fail
A light mist that clears on a drive is normal, because housings breathe by design. Standing water is not.
Any housing we open is resealed with fresh butyl, because a poor reseal after a retrofit is the most common cause of a headlight that fogs for the rest of its life.
What we will talk you out of
LED bulbs in a halogen reflector. A blackout tint on a daily driver. A deep engrave into a lens. White front turn signals. A restoration with no coating over it. Film applied over a lens that is already hazy.
And any promise that a part is legal everywhere, because we do not write the rules and the rules are not the same in two states.
